GMWEA offers 16 hour-long technical trainings at its two annual conferences as well as longer courses offered throughout the year, such as the day-long Vermont Stormwater Management Manual course
and the eight-week Basic Wastewater Management course.
Our Spring Meeting & Training Conference, held in May, and the Fall Tradeshow, held in November, are Vermont's largest water-quality sector events. Both feature trainings, vendor exhibits, speakers, networking opportunities, and association business meetings.
GMWEA public education initiatives include publications, internet platforms, facility tours, school programs, press relations, and special events. Informed water users understand the value of water and wastewater services!
These events allow members of the water quality professional community to network, exchange knowledge, and take pride in the good work they do. The annual Poo & Brew is geared toward young professionals; other activities include the Operation Water Workers Motorcycle Charity Ride, a tour of the incredible Deer Island, Mass., wastewater facility, and more.
GMWEA offers a free water-testing kit program used by over 500 students each year, expert science fair judging, facility tours, a VSAC scholarship, a travel scholarship for Vermont's Stockholm Junior Water Prize winner, judging and cash prizes at the annual Vermont STEM Fair, and more.
Our Government Affairs Committee monitors policy developments throughout the year and provides advisory letters and testimony to the Legislature. Our January Meet & Greet at the Statehouse allows lawmakers and water quality professionals to meet face-to-face, and our quarterly meetings with Vt. DEC staff helps keep regulators and the regulated community working effectively together.
Our quarterly newsletter, website and blog, member brochures, special publications like the "Don't Flush It!" brochure series, and issue-specific papers are intended to connect our members to each other and to the larger community.
